The dumpster industry is just as varied and full of professionals as any other corner of the business world, which means that awards are a very common sight. Waste management and handling can be a very difficult field with a lot of specific challenges to overcome, and these awards have a strong meaning.
But why should things like the Waste360 ’40 Under 40’ award matter, and what benefits do they have? As part of the industry ourselves, we always aim to acquire as many awards as we can.
Why do waste awards matter?
Like any industry, awards are a professional mark of quality and skill. Some of them may be specific to particular managers or teams, while others are for the entire extended company. Either way, they are a valuable medal to earn, and many companies struggle to achieve them.
Eagle Dumpster Rental has two decades of experience working with projects across the state of Pennsylvania, and we continue to impress clients in small and large communities across Allegheny County, including the community of Buena Vista along the Youghiogheny River in Elizabeth Township.
In the waste industry, there are a lot of factors that might go into winning a certain award. Quality of service, speed, reliability, unique products, earnings, customer ratings, and almost anything else could go into each particular award.
Many awards are limited to only a few (or even one) per year – even if we do not manage to achieve a certain award in one year, we at Eagle Dumpster Rental still aim for award-level quality at all times. Our award-winning customer service is just one good example.
What do those awards mean for customers?
Awards are not just meant for the rest of the industry but also for customers. A good award can make it clear that a company has offered award-winning quality in at least one area. Many people are more likely to choose a company simply because of their award portfolio.
On a practical level, the work is still the same. However, any awards that companies like us earn can translate directly into better results for most projects, helping customers get exactly what they need.
Customers do not have to worry too much about awards, but they are a good measuring tool for working out how good a certain company might be.
What is Waste360?
Waste360 is a waste industry hub that provides education, commerce, events, and other services to all kinds of waste companies and other related communities. As a dumpster rental company, their existence is directly tied back to our operations and the way that we handle our work.
This means that they are a major part of how our employees are trained, win awards, acquire new equipment, and improve our company as a whole. Like many other industry-specific groups, Waste360 has unique awards that are given out to specific companies or individuals.
What is the 40 Under 40 award?
The Waste 360 40 Under 40 award is meant to identify industry professionals under the age of 40 that have made major contributions to the waste, recycling, and organics industry. These winners can be from almost any part of waste management – hauling, composing, or our own dumpster work.
40 Under 40 applies to individual people that have had a significant impact on their industry either locally or globally, usually by leading a company to success or inventing some new strategy. Our company is constantly aiming to achieve the 40 Under 40 award every year that it runs.
However, 40 Under 40 is not the only award that we aim to win. Among the other qualifications and awards that we have already secured, there are a lot of different waste awards that our business targets. Giving customers award-winning service is a major priority.
Should customers always target award-winning companies?
While it can be tempting to always go for the company that has the most awards, services like dumpster rental can be a lot more tricky. There are more factors than the company’s quality in play, like distance, rental times, and even the overall cost.
Dumpster rental generally only has company involvement when the dumpster is delivered and picked up, meaning that the dumpster itself is the important part. If you need a good dumpster for your project, then any decent option will do, as long as it suits your needs.
For example, if you require a certain dumpster size and make, then a company’s awards will not change how good the dumpster is. It could have an impact on the delivery, customer service, or general quality of how your dumpster is arranged and delivered.
Customer Service
Our award-winning customer service means that we have been recognized for our work with customers and clients. It means that our guarantee of good customer service is backed up with something, which may appeal to certain customers.
Customer service awards are hard to earn since they require a lot of feedback from customers. Any company that possesses one is often a good choice, especially if you are worried about running into issues with the dumpster pick-up or the arranged dumpster rental period.
Quality
General quality awards are always good. However, if they are outdated, then there is always a chance that the company has changed quite a lot since then. This happens most often if new management comes in and is one of the reasons that 40 Under 40 targets specific people.
A quality award can be reassuring to some customers, but it is not a requirement for a company to be good. Some awards are only given out in certain numbers, meaning that a lot of companies will not get them in the first couple of years that they qualify.
Conserving water can be important for multiple reasons. Not only does it harm the environment in general, but it also means that you have to pay more while ‘using’ the same amount of water overall. Finding small ways to conserve some can make a huge difference in your daily life.
Install New Fixtures
One of the most common issues with old bathroom and kitchen fixtures is how inefficient they can be. Many homes that still use old systems have issues with how much water is needed to flush toilets, which can easily lead to problems later on.
Rent a dumpster in the community of Bulger, Pennsylvania with Eagle Dumpster Rental of Washington County.
Taking them out, tossing them in a dumpster, and installing some new ones is the easiest solution. While replacing some fixtures might be costly, to begin with, new fixtures can save a lot of money and give you better results from day-to-day usage, along with any other features that they might have.
Manage Water Usage
You can save plenty of water simply by limiting and managing how you use it. Turning off the faucet when you are not actively needing the water flow, like brushing your teeth or washing dishes, can save a lot of money in the long term.
A huge majority of your daily water will simply get wasted, so the less you use per day, the less you are likely to lose. This can quickly add up to massive water savings over time. Properly managing when you use your water also matters when trying to avoid high prices too.
Water your Lawn Carefully
Watering your lawn at the right times can minimize the chance of evaporation. This allows more of the water to stay in the grass, ensuring that only a small amount evaporates away. Colder hours or periods with little sunlight are often best.
Be sure to use a sprayer where possible instead of an open hose end. This allows better control over the amount of water you are using and the direction that it is being sprayed in. Sprinklers can work, but they often waste a lot of water, and mist-based sprayers are a very wasteful option.
Shower Smart
Always be prepared to take a short shower instead of a long one, and do not treat yourself to longer ones too often. Conserving water is important, so you might want to try and take shorter showers on workdays, reducing how much water you waste for almost the full week.
You can also avoid this problem by being smarter with when you shower, as well as improving the shower fixtures themselves. The less water you are using, the better, so taking fewer showers or limiting the time spent in each showering ‘session’ can make a big difference.
Avoid Cleaning with Water
Do your best to minimize how much water you use for cleaning purposes. For example, it might be tempting to hose down your driveway or deck, but this is a lot of water wasted for effectively no reason. A broom can have the same benefits, and even using a mop can be more water-efficient.
This is true for washing your car, too. A bucket of water filled with soapy suds is only one bucket, whereas spraying it down with a hose might waste several buckets. Carefully control how much water you are using to clean, and only spray with hoses when absolutely necessary.
Store your own Water
Rain barrels are an incredibly useful option for conserving water. If you are clearing out an old bathroom and throwing most of the appliances into the dumpster, you might even consider leaving the old bath or sink out to catch rainwater. The more you catch, the less you need to pay for.
This natural water might not be safe to drink, even if you try to purify it, but it can serve many other purposes: cleaning, watering plants, helping animals cool off. If you have a purifying system, then you might be able to repurpose it for other things, too, like washing dishes.
Take Advantage of Water Sources
Water can behave in strange ways, but there are a lot of water sources in the world around you. If you have a dumpster rental out front that gets flooded with rainwater, use some of that to water your grass. If you have a stream out back, scoop some out to clean down a nearby path.
Using your water intelligently will allow you to get the same results while using less of your residential water supply and can reduce your overall water consumption as a whole. The less you use, the better your water habits are.
Limit Your Overall Water Consumption
In general, reducing how much water you are using is a good idea. This does not mean you drink less – instead, try to avoid any situation where you are wasting water for no reason. This could include garden water features, watering plants that do not need it, or keeping reserves of tap water that you will not use.
The less you rely on your regular water supply, the cheaper it becomes, and the less you harm the environment. Even resorting to water barrels and other natural supplies can be better, although those may not be safe to drink, and many require some extra thought.
Remember that every single home and lifestyle is different, so some people may require more water than others for particular reasons. If you keep indoor plants or pets, more water might be used up per day, but you can still massively reduce your consumption with a few small changes.
Many items come into our lives for a moment that we believe to be recyclable, but often we are wrong and end up doing more damage than good – despite our intentions.
For example, you have ordered a takeout meal for your family, and the boxes are cardboard. All of that waste can be recycled, so you do not need to feel guilty about it, right? Actually, the food waste and grease that has gotten onto the containers means they are no longer recyclable.
Eagle Dumpster Rental of Frederick County rents dumpsters to customers across Burkittsville, Maryland and area.
This happens more often than you might think, and you could be causing more issues than you intend by not being aware of recycling contaminants.
What Is Wish Cycling?
Wish-cycling is a term that has been coined by Recycle Across America and refers to the tendency we all have to think more waste is recyclable than truly is. This comes from the fact we want – or wish – for the waste to be recyclable, so we believe it is.
Recycling contamination is the thing that ruins our good intentions. This refers to any material or waste that ends up in the recycling system yet cannot be recycled.
Putting non-recyclable items into the recycling waste ends up with fewer materials being recycled at all, and even one piece of contaminated recycled waste can result in an entire stream of recycled materials being contaminated and therefore going to landfill.
Being more aware of what we put into recycling can reduce these risks and make sure our efforts are doing the good we intend.
Top Nine Recycling Contaminants
The following are the most common recycling contaminants and should be avoided as much as possible to make sure you are doing the right thing with your waste.
Plastic Bags
Plastic bags are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to non-recyclable waste, and there is a large category to look out for. Plastic bags include anything from shopping carrier bags from the supermarket to Ziploc bags, none of which should go in recycling.
Scrap Metal
Scrap metal includes brass, steel, iron, and copper and should not be recycled at all. This kind of metal can cause serious damage to recycling equipment, thus ruining the efforts of all other forms of recycling when they end up in the same place.
Instead of throwing scrap metal into the recycling waste, it can often be recycled at a local scrap yard, and sometimes a payment is offered for this.
Shredded and Colored Paper
Shredded paper causes issues in the recycling system because it is very small, meaning it cannot be sorted and often gets stuck in the machinery. Instead of throwing this kind of paper into the recycling waste, it can be used in a compost bin.
Likewise, colored paper is not on the recycling list because it contains dyes. Typically this kind of paper will release its color when it is thrown into recycling waste which will contaminate other materials in the recycling pile.
Think of colored paper like colored laundry, as it needs to be separated from whites in the same manner and cannot be recycled with other paper.
Certain Plastics
Some plastics are fine for recycling, but not all of them. You can determine what kind of plastic can be recycled by looking at the resin identification code (RIC), which will show you what kind of plastic it is. This should be shown on all plastics and can be found near the arrow recycling logo.
Plastics with the assigned numbers 1 and 2, such as milk jugs and cleaning product packaging, are almost always accepted in curbside recycling. However, numbers 3, 6, and 7 need to go in the trash.
Recycling procedures can vary based on your location, so make sure to check with your local authorities.
Frozen Food Waste and Takeout Boxes
As we have mentioned, food containers are not always suitable for recycling because they are contaminated with food waste. When it comes to frozen food, most of the packaging is coated in a polymer spray to prevent freezer burn, which cannot be recycled.
Containers that have been contaminated with food waste and grease also cannot be recycled. However, you can prevent this by breaking off parts of the packaging that are clean to be recycled separately.
Certain Glass or Ceramics
The chemical compositions of glass from windows, mirrors, and light bulbs, as well as porcelain, pyrex, and broken dishes, prevent them from being recyclable.
Lids and Caps
Some bottles may be recycled, but the caps cannot be because they are usually made from plastic.
Plastic caps and lids should be thrown in the trash, but metal lids can be washed and recycled.
Flattened Containers
Flattened containers can be mistaken for paper when they get to the recycling plant, which will cause issues with the machinery. Containers mixed with paper will contaminate the recycled material and cause a lot of waste to be thrown into landfills unnecessarily.
While flattened containers may save space, they cause more issues this way, so leave them in their natural state when recycling.
Hazardous or Bio Hazardous Waste
Waste such as pesticides, automotive fluid, and even used diapers falls into this category and they need to be separated from all other trash.
Each location has its own guidelines for this waste, so check with your local authority.

This is companion planting, and we are going to provide you with a great guide to it.
What is Companion Planting?
Companion planting is the strategic practice of planting vegetables, herbs, or other plants next to one another in a way that will organically encourage growth, prevent pests or promote pollination.

The past few years have been a difficult time for everyone. The repercussions of the covid-19 pandemic will likely be felt by communities in the US for a very long time, even if it currently feels as though we are moving away from this time.
Currently, many of us are now working to create a ‘new normal,’ and this includes innovative ways to give back.
Eagle Dumpster Rental offers affordable prices in the 16023 ZIP code and all of Cabot, Pennsylvania in Butler County.
With many people still struggling and in need, being able to give back is more important now than ever before, but the restrictions make things difficult. This is why a lot of organizations, such as Give Back Cincinnati, are providing a socially distanced way to give back.
This is your guide to the Give Back Cincinnati initiative, ‘Quarenteering.’
What Is Give Back Cincinnati?
Give Back Cincinnati is a charity program that is focused on giving back to the community.
It was founded in 2000 by a small group of friends who were looking for innovative ways to support their community, and the scheme has now increased to an incredible 3,000 plus members since then. These members donate their time to the cause, volunteering in schemes and programs that can improve the greater Cincinnati area.
Give Back Cincinnati’s work includes hours of volunteering in cleaning trash from public spaces, painting neighborhoods, and creating community gardens to be enjoyed by all.
Eagle Dumpster Rental has been involved with the community scheme as a sponsor since 2019 and has continued to support the scheme in its new endeavors. Eagle Dumpster has provided a dumpster for the Give Back Cincinnati’s social distance cleaning project, known as Quarenteering in Winton Woods.
The Quarenteering Volunteer Scheme
Following closures across the country due to the covid-19 pandemic, many companies have begun to operate digitally. The same has occurred for Give Back Cincinnati which had been operating digitally since the beginning of the pandemic but has been looking to do more.
In September 2020, the team organized a new kind of volunteering event as a way to give more back to the community during these difficult times.
Give Back Cincinnati arranged three socially distanced cleanups in the area during this time as a way to get the community back together and help those in need.
Eagle Dumpsters is proud to have sponsored these cleanup events by offering a dumpster for the Winston Woods cleanup program, which took place on October 10th.
To ensure that the group was working in accordance with covid-19 guidelines, Give Back Cincinnati capped event attendance to prevent too many people from being in the same area, and when they arrived, volunteers were split into groups. Masks, gloves, and sanitizer were provided by the community-led group, as well as enforced social distancing between the volunteers.
Even with these restrictions in place, Give Back Cincinnati managed to do an excellent job where 100 bags of trash were collected from Winton Lake and the surrounding trails.
Feeling Inspired? How To Clean Your Neighborhood When Socially Distancing
If the efforts of Give Back Cincinnati have inspired you, then it is time to take action. Even though restrictions are still in place in many locations across the US, it is still possible to clean neighborhoods without breaking the rules.
It is possible to do an effective cleanup of your community when socially distancing, whether you are working alone or in a group. To make sure you do a good job while also staying safe, follow these seven tips:
Choose a large area for your clean up efforts where social distancing is possible, ensuring there is room for at least six feet between each volunteer
Consider how many people will be in the area when you are planning to do your clean up operation, and make sure to choose a time with the least amount of traffic
Take care of your own safety by wearing safety gloves when picking up trash, and make sure to properly dispose of these when you have finished your work. Carefully take off the glove by grabbing the opening on the wrist then pulling the glove towards your fingers so it is removed inside out
When picking up trash, make sure to wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer frequently in between washing
Encourage the other members of your group to bring their own supplies, such as gloves, trash grabbers, and trash bags, so there is no cross-contamination from sharing things
Avoid touching any surfaces when picking up trash, including railings, banisters, tables, and play equipment
Make sure to sanitize all gear used in the cleanup effort before going home to prevent the germs from spreading. Ensure waste is safely disposed of before leaving the area
With these tips, it is possible to arrange a volunteer cleanup during covid-19 without increasing the risk in your area. Now is a great time to give back to the community, as many people continue to struggle, and you can do this safely with diligence.

Most of us have too much stuff and live in cluttered homes, where wardrobes and drawers are overflowing with things we no longer use. Learning what you want to get rid of can narrow down your options when it comes to disposal methods, which will make it easier to make your home comfortable.
In addition to delivering to all corners of the city of Pittsburgh, we deliver to boroughs in the greater Pittsburgh metro area and all of Washington County, including the borough of California and the 15419 ZIP code that covers most of the borough.
Tips For Getting Rid Of Stuff
It can be hard to get rid of stuff because a lot of the time, we do not know what we truly need and what is simply taking up space.
Regardless of which room you are working in, the following tips are a good place to start to successfully get rid of clutter:
Consider what the room is used for and ask whether each item is needed for that purpose to decide whether to keep or toss
Test all appliances and electronics to see whether they still work. If they do not work and likely have not for a while, then it is time to let them go
Embrace decluttering-guru Mario Kondo and question whether an item ‘sparks joy’ before deciding what to do with it. If you do not like something and there is no use for it, then it is time to throw it away
Stuff To Get Rid Of Room By Room
When decluttering, it is easier to take things room by room as this will allow you to focus on the task at hand. To make things easier, we have created lists for each room in the house of things you can throw away today for a clutter-free home.
Kitchen
The kitchen can be a magnet for household clutter because it is usually a high-traffic area that is used by all of the family. Some of these items will be essential to the daily routine of your home, but there is a lot of junk that you can throw away today, such as:
Receipts, menus, and other papers that are not required
Fast food napkins and condiments
Duplicates, such as kitchen supplies, cups, and tools
Items you never use, such as spices or ingredients that are left in the pantry for months
Kiddie cups and utensils that your children have grown out of
Old birthday candles and party supplies
Plastic bags, such as old shopping bags
Living Areas
This is a space for the family to come together and spend quality time, which will be easier to do when the area is free from clutter like:
VHS tapes and DVDs, especially if you use streaming services instead like most people
VCR and DVD players, as without discs they will not be used at all
Miscellaneous technology that has no purpose or is no longer used
Old board games and card decks, as they will likely have missing pieces
Kid’s toys and games that are no longer used by your children
Old magazines, newspapers, and other paper items
Laundry Rooms and Entryways
The smaller areas of the home that do not see as much traffic, such as the living spaces, can also become cluttered quickly. As they are out of sight, many people consider the clutter out of mind when they are left in laundry rooms – until it becomes too much.
Think about the purpose of these rooms when decluttering, as this will help keep you focused. Things to throw away in these spaces include:
Mismatched socks
Torn or ripped clothing that cannot be repaired
Expired cleaning supplies
Old keys, tools, and similar metal equipment that has no use
Used detergent and cleaning bottles
Miscellaneous clutter which may have been kept in the room because there is no other space in the home
Dead batteries, both single-use and rechargeable
Home Office
Many people work from home these days, which can lead to more clutter in the home. However, to get your job done well, you need to have a productive work environment.
Consider the purpose of this room and what you truly need for your work. Other items can be thrown away, such as:
Old paperwork, including letters, documents, and receipts
Excess stationery, such as pens and pencils
Dried out pens or stationery that no longer works as needed
Ruined office supplies, like stained folders, crumpled notebooks, or broken staplers
Books that have not been read nor will be read in the future
Bedroom
The bedroom should be a retreat from the rest of the world, a place where you can relax and get ready for the next day. There are a lot of items that find their way into this room that do not need to be there, such as:
Excess or worn out bedding, towels, and clothing
Trash and clutter from the bedside table
Broken or excess hangers
Cups, plates, and other crockery
Old keepsakes, such as school letters, notebooks, or photographs of people you no longer know
Bathroom
It is simple to clear out the bathroom as this space has one clear purpose. Trash is anything that does not fit into this purpose or can no longer be used, such as:
Hotel toiletries and free samples
Worn out towels, bath mats, and cloths
Duplicate grooming tools Expired prescriptions and supplements
Unused and expired makeup
Unused lotions, skincare, and soaps
Conclusion
Considering the purpose of every room in the home will make decluttering easier, as it is clear to see what stuff is no longer needed and what is simply taking up space.
Hoarding may seem like a common term when an individual does not want to throw away certain possessions or items in their home. Many people feel comforted when they are surrounded by familiar objects that remind them of the past and particular happy memories, perhaps loved ones who are no longer here. However, if an individual begins to hoard a vast amount of belongings and even items of rubbish, they may have developed a problem that should be addressed.
We deliver to the big city addresses – but we also deliver to plenty of areas around the Pittsburgh metro area, including the borough of Canonsburg in Washington County, Pennsylvania and the 15317 ZIP code used by most homes and businesses in Canonsburg.
Hoarding can become a psychological disorder in this case whereby an individual becomes upset or emotional if they think that some of their belongings are about to be thrown away. Such items will be of no value, but the individual feels anxious when considering throwing them away. Typically, the individual will not understand that they have a problem, although their home may start to become unhygienic and may begin to negatively impact their physical health, as well as their mental health.
Symptoms of Hoarding
Recognizing the symptoms of hoarding is important to secure help for your friend or family member. If the individual is compulsively hoarding, they may begin to hoard rubbish or boxes from items of food, newspapers, or old clothes that they no longer can wear. They may pile such items up high, allowing the hoarded belongings to overtake rooms across the home, rendering those rooms unusable due to lack of space and a lack of hygiene.
The individual may not think that living in such circumstances is a problem and may not understand why you think that their hoarding is such a significant problem. If you recognize one or more of these symptoms present in the life of a friend or family member, you should aim to access help and support for them immediately.
The first action to take is to find psychological help for the individual, aiming to release the anxiety and emotional attachment inside of them before the physical symptoms can be addressed. The International OCD Foundation is a point of contact for you to discover a therapist local to you who can provide specialist help with hoarding disorders.
How You Can Help
In addition to seeking professional help, there are steps for you to take to help your friend or family member, also. Always remember that the hoarder owns the belongings in their home and that they must also own the process.
Casually discuss cleaning their homes and decluttering their hoarding, remembering to use nonjudgemental words and phrases with an emphasis on how more enjoyable their life will be if there is less clutter so that they can use their home fully once more. Help them to imagine a relaxing bedroom and a cozy living room or the spacious kitchen they could host a party in.
If the individual begins to agree to a declutter, it is important that the decluttering and cleaning process is completed in a manageable way and in complete agreement with the individual in question. It may not be possible to clean the house and dispose of all clutter in a day or two, as the individual may feel as though small chunks or single areas of the home should be tackled one piece at a time.
Ask the individual what they want to throw away first, making a set of criteria for each item. For example, it may be decided that the first step is to throw away newspapers that are more than one month old, followed by any mail that is not of any use. Each time the individual succeeds in achieving each step, they may feel motivated and encouraged to progress to the next step.
They may feel comfortable throwing away one particular item each day, or perhaps they would prefer to complete one room each day. It should be their decision in line with their level of anxiety. Of course, before any actual cleaning can be completed, the clutter must go first, so helping an individual with a hoarding disorder may be a long and arduous process that you would have to be dedicated to seeing through to fruition.
The experts at Eagle Dumpster Rental will be able to agree on a longer period of rental if required to suit the needs of the decluttering schedule. Of course, Eagle Dumpster Rental will then take away all of your rubbish and clutter and dispose of it safely and ethically.
Once the clutter has left the home and entered the dumpster, you can begin to clean the home of your friend and family member to create the clean, hygienic, and tidy home that they deserve, helping to realize their visualization at the beginning of the process.
However, remember that once the home is decluttered and clean, the hoarding disorder will not magically disappear. Being a psychological disorder, hoarding may reappear once again, so it is important that the individual continues with gaining professional help and support as well as their friends and family monitoring their progress and preventing a relapse.
A leaky roof is one of the worst things that can happen to your home in the long term. If you leave it unfixed, even the smallest roof leak can spread, leading to widespread water damage, mold, and potentially even structural problems for your house. Mold is the biggest risk, though, as it can cause significant health problems as well as simply looking unpleasant. It can be tricky to get rid of, so it is important to try to fix a roof leak as fast as possible before it has time to spread and cause problems.
Cape May, New Jersey is fully served by Eagle Dumpster Rental.
We are going to walk you through some basic steps for finding and repairing a roof leak, starting with the basic DIY options and moving on to more advanced fixes if things get serious. Below, you will find a complete guide to finding and fixing leaky roofs!
Step 1: The First Signs of a Leak
In most cases, the first signs of a leaky roof that you will notice will simply be water dripping from your ceiling when it rains. However, there are other signs you can keep an eye out for, and some of these might give you an earlier indication of a leak than just waiting for the drips. Several of them are visible even when it is not raining, too, making it even easier to spot the signs of a leak before it gets too bad.
Keep an eye out for changes in your house, like new stains on the ceiling, bulging patches on your interior walls, or strange musty smells in certain areas or rooms of your home. There are also exterior signs that might be visible, like spots and damp patches on your external walls or missing or warped wooden shingles on your house.
All of these signs are possible indications that you have a leak. However, they will not tell you exactly where the leak is. In order to locate exactly where a leak is in your home, a bit of searching is going to be necessary.
Step 2: Inspecting the Attic for Leaks
Finding a leak in your roof is going to mean getting as close as you can to the roof. In most cases, that means taking a flashlight and going up into the roof cavity or attic. Be careful with this particularly if there has been some water damage. It can be easy to put your foot through the ceiling if you are not careful. Examine the roof sheathing and rafters for water stains, mold, or black marks.
Often, small water stains can be caused by exposed nails. That does not mean there is a leak, though – warm indoor air can cause condensation on the nails and form small water stains. In this case, you can simply clip off the head of the nail with a sturdy set of pliers. What you are looking for here is larger stains or moldy spots.
If you do not have any attic space, then moving on to checking the exterior of the roof is your best bet. If you are living in an apartment without direct access to the roof or renting a building from a landlord, contact your property manager or landlord immediately, and they will be able to bring in a contractor to find your leak and repair it.
Step 3: Testing your Roof
If at this point, you still can’t find the leak, it is time to make it visible. Get someone else to stand inside, near where you first saw traces of a leak. Then, head up to the roof with your garden hose. Working slowly and carefully, soak your roof in small sections. Spend several minutes on each section to make sure you cover every spot and wait for your helper to notify you when they spot a wet patch or a drip. Working carefully in small sections like this means you can narrow down where the leak is. If water comes through while you are soaking a small area, that means the leak is somewhere in that section!
Step 4: DIY Repairs
When you have found the leak, it is time to fix it. If you have got the right tools and knowledge, it should be possible to do this as a DIY project. Depending on what sort of leak it is, there are a few different ways you can try to repair it.
If your leak is due to a damaged shingle, then you will need to replace that shingle. Remove the nail holding it down, and scrape away any remaining traces of roofing cement from the area. Get a new shingle, apply some new cement, and nail the shingle into place.
If your leak is due to a plumbing vent boot problem, then it is time to replace the boot. Replacements can be easily found in most hardware stores. You might not need to do that, though; if the boot is in good condition, then you can just replace the screws. Using rubber washer replacement screws rather than regular screws should prevent further leakage.
If your leak is around the edge of a window, chimney, or vent, then all you need to do is replace the caulk around that element. This is an easy process that should fill any gaps very effectively.
Step 5: Call In the Professionals
If your problem seems too serious to fix yourself, or you do not have the required tools, then it is time to call a professional to help. Do this as quickly as possible, before the damage gets any worse! Professional roofers will be able to identify just how bad your roof is and give you a quote for repairs. That could range from simply replacing the flashing around the roof to replacing the entire roof from scratch. Either way, they will be able to help when you can’t fix it yourself.
There are so many tools and wireless pieces of equipment that we rely on which use batteries, which means that every home will have a supply of batteries on the go at all times. However, when the batteries die, do you know what to do with them?
You must know how to properly dispose of and recycle batteries because we use them so much, and this can impact the environment as well as the way our home runs.
Carteret, NJ projects will go more smoothly with a waste management solution from Eagle Dumpster Rental.
As we have a lot of different devices, there are also a lot of different batteries to go with them, and each type needs to be handled in its own way. For example, batteries from your laptop cannot be recycled the same way the batteries in your remote control can because they are different types.
In this guide, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about the safe way to dispose of batteries and whether you can recycle what you have been using.
How To Dispose Of Single-Use Batteries
Single-use batteries are the most common kind of battery used in households across the US. These batteries include the common types, such as AA, AAA, 9V, and D-cell sizes which can be used for a range of tools and devices.
These are the kinds of batteries that you will use in your remotes, toys, flashlights, and other small electronics. As the name suggests, they can only be used one time until they run out of power. Essentially, if a battery is not rechargeable, then it falls into this category.
Can I Throw Single-Use Batteries Into The Trash?
In the US, single-use batteries can be thrown into the household trash with the rest of the waste unless you are in California. In California, it is illegal to throw away all types of batteries, and there are alternatives for those in this state.
Before 1996, household batteries were considered to be hazardous waste as they contained mercury, but this is no longer the case. Now batteries are made using common metals which are deemed to be non-hazardous by the federal government, which is why they can be thrown in the trash in most states.
There is an exception to this rule, however, which is button cell batteries. These are used in watches and are still considered to be hazardous, which is why they need to be disposed of in the same way as rechargeable batteries.
Can Single-Use Batteries Be Recycled?
Single-use batteries can be recycled, but there is usually a fee involved with this.
To recycle single-use batteries, you will need to get in touch with your local solid waste district to find out how things work in your community. There may be a collection day or upcoming event where you can recycle batteries.
Single-use batteries can also be disposed of in recycling centers if they accept them.
If none of these solutions work for you, then there are also mail-in recycling services for batteries. This mail-in recycling service will be sent out in a container for you to use for the batteries, and then you can send this back to them for the batteries to be disposed of properly.
Instead of worrying about how to dispose of single-use batteries, you could instead invest in rechargeable batteries.
These can be used in a range of devices time and time again without an additional charge to you and will protect the environment as they do not need to be thrown away.
How To Prepare Household Batteries For Recycling
Some preparation needs to be done before you can recycle your batteries. Once you have decided which is the right disposal method for you, it is time to prepare the batteries.
Cover both ends of the battery using non-conductive tape, like duct tape or electrical tape, to prevent current transfer. You can also do this by bagging each battery individually.
Store batteries inside a plastic or cardboard container as these materials do not conduct electricity. This will prevent further issues if there is a spark.
If you are mailing your batteries to a recycling center, make sure to abide by the rules given to you and follow all the safety steps before shipping.
How To Dispose Of Rechargeable Batteries
Rechargeable batteries are a great alternative to single-use batteries because they can save you money and do not need to be disposed of as quickly.
These batteries can be used all around the home, and there are several different types available, including nickel-metal hydride, nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, and small sealed lead-acid batteries.
Can I Throw Rechargeable Batteries In The Trash?
Rechargeable batteries cannot be thrown into the trash or in a dumpster. This is because they contain heavy metals which are considered to be hazardous to the environment, meaning they need to be disposed of separately.
In some states, it is illegal to throw rechargeable batteries in the trash because of this.
Can Rechargeable Batteries Be Recycled?
Rechargeable batteries can and should be recycled when they eventually come to the end of their life.
As this is how they should be disposed of, there will usually be no cost associated with recycling rechargeable batteries, and the process will be easier than when dealing with single-use batteries.
Home improvement and office supply stores will have a space for you to recycle rechargeable batteries. There are also mail-order recycling programs for rechargeable batteries based on your location.
The attic is a horribly-underused space. Many homes do not even have an accessible way to reach it, let alone safe flooring to properly step on. Without a solid plan of what you want and how it will be handled, it can be incredibly difficult to even begin the process.
Having a solid plan, and preparing well, is a key part of all work like this. If you are ready to get your attic looked at, then here are some things to think about ahead of time.
Rent a roll-away dumpster in Cascade, Maryland with Eagle Dumpster Rental of Washington County.
Know the layout
Your attic is only going to have so much space, and some of that might be taken up with support beams or other important equipment. On top of that, it can be difficult to think about your attic until you know the actual layout and scale of what you are working with.
Take some time to think things over and work out how you plan to change the space. Do you just need to give it proper flooring, or will there be larger-scale work involved? How will people access it? How easy is it to get furniture up there?
Make sure you have a decent understanding of the layout and some basic measurements. Even if you can’t be exact, some rough estimates can help, especially if you do not have any professionals helping you yet.
Check for permits
Do you need any permits to change your attic? What about building codes? There are certain things that an attic must have to be considered a valid living or working space. While you can still make the changes, you will often have restrictions on what you can legally do with the finished space.
In some parts of the world, you also legally need to have staircase access. This means that you might not be able to keep the same ladder system, at least not when turning it into a full living space.
The permits can be an important part. Certain changes may require extra permits, especially modifications that change the shape of the house itself (like adding a dormer or knocking through a wall to replace it with something else).
Prepare a dumpster
If you have not ventured into your attic in a while, there might be a lot of things in there that need to be disposed of. The process of making an attic into a usable room can also be tough and might generate a lot of waste even if you are only doing basic work.
To get around that problem, look into hiring a dumpster before the work begins. This will let you get rid of almost anything without needing to stress too much over throwing it away, making it a lot easier to get the work done with minimal interruptions.
Remember that a rented dumpster is also delivered and picked up for you. If you are generating a lot of waste and throwing away a lot of old possessions, then this kind of disposal method is more hands-off. You do not have to take all the waste away, so you can focus on the work at home instead.
Think about other important requirements
An attic can be visually turned into an empty, clean living space, but what about the other requirements? These are things like wiring, heating, ventilation, safety, and anything else that might be needed to let people live, sleep, and work in your new attic room.
Many people forget to look into things like ventilation and heat, and having neither of those can make the space incredibly uncomfortable to use. There is also the fact that you might legally have to include certain pieces of equipment, especially if they are related to safety.
For example, many attic areas need to have at least one window – there needs to be a valid way to escape the house if something goes wrong, and ideally, some natural lighting. This can be extra work if your attic does not already have a window or lighting, but there are ways around it.
Finally, think about what you actually plan to do with the finished attic. You want a space that you can use for its intended purpose without anybody getting hurt, struggling to concentrate, or having to cram themselves into a cramped space. Tailor the plan to your needs and requirements.
Get Expert Help
There are a lot of details that you can’t judge by eye, including the limits of a space. An attic is likely to have a lot of limitations that you will need to follow, including relatively simple things like the amount of weight that the floor can support or the total height of the room.
In these cases, you should get experts involved. Even if you are only asking a more experienced family member, having a fresh pair of eyes on your plan can really help you figure out what you are working with – and the kind of restrictions that you might have to follow. The more you know, the better.
This can matter for technical changes, like seeing how much time and effort it might take to wire up certain appliances or get new lighting installed. These things are not easy to estimate unless you have experience in the field, making it difficult to guess. A bad guess might even damage the attic.
However, getting expert help is most important when making broad, sweeping changes to your attic. Installing a new wall, replacing the ladder with stairs, building a new window, or making other structural alterations will need an expert’s opinion to handle these properly.
Moving house is a major step in your life, whether you are going somewhere smaller or larger than your current property. A lot of planning goes into the move, and you often have to prepare weeks in advance, making sure that everything is properly arranged.
However, many people forget to actually downsize before they start packing. If you are moving house – especially to a much smaller property – then you may not have as much space to keep all of your accumulated trinkets. The more you keep, the harder the move becomes.
Eagle Dumpster Rental rents roll-away dumpsters to customers in Cavetown, Maryland and the 21720 ZIP code, providing hassle-free estimates on bins of all sizes and volumes to customers throughout Washington County.
Downsizing and cutting down the number of items that you bring with you can be important and might help you get rid of some items that you are keeping for no good reason. But how do you do it?
Check What You Own
Always start by looking at what you actually own. Ideally, you want a full inventory of everything that you own, then you want to cull out the things that you have not been using. Keeping something small with sentimental value is fine, but an old bike eats up a lot of space for no good reason.
This also helps you track down things that you did not even remember buying – items that you should probably just get rid of. These are often larger things that you have stored somewhere and forgotten about, and you usually will not want to take them anyway.
Remember that you do not have to throw away everything. There might be old appliances or possessions that you would rather give to somebody else, or even some old art that might be worth selling. The important part is minimizing how much you are taking with you.
Go From Room To Room
Each room in your home will have a different purpose, and there is usually going to be a similar space in your new home. However, it is important to make sure that you are cutting down on how much you bring, and that means looking at each room individually.
For example, your kitchen will likely have some duplicate appliances or tools, things that you only really need one of. Getting rid of these duplicates helps, especially if you know that there are similar appliances at your new home anyway.
This can also make it much easier to deal with specific spaces. Instead of getting distracted by other parts of the house, choosing to focus on only one room at a time can ensure that you have completely cleared it out. Sometimes following a strict schedule can help with this, too.
Throw Away Unwanted Items
A lot of people will find unwanted things, put them to one side, and then leave them there. Try to motivate yourself to throw them away – it often only takes a few extra minutes of your day to get things tossed out or bagged up for donation somewhere, and the extra space will be worth it.
Renting a dumpster from a company like Eagle Dumpster Rental is a good option since this allows you to toss large amounts of unwanted items or other assorted trash with minimal effort. If you time it correctly, you can even keep this dumpster until the day before you move to handle last-minute discoveries.
Use whatever methods you like to get rid of old items, but remember to actually get rid of them. Moving them into bags and leaving them in the corner still takes up room in your house, and you want them to be completely gone before you move.
It might also be a good opportunity to build good waste-disposal habits before you move. If you have always struggled with staying motivated enough to throw things away regularly, then use your move as a chance to ‘train’ yourself into a more consistent cleaning routine.
Don’t Underestimate Storage
Storage is both a blessing and a curse. It is great to be able to store things that you no longer need, but it also means that you will lose track of smaller items. If you are not using something, then it is taking up room for no reason and will contribute to the moving problem.
Look through your current storage and make sure that you identify anything that you no longer need. You might be storing a load of old possessions that have no use and no real sentimental value, so getting rid of them can take a lot of weight off your shoulders and make moving much simpler.
On the other hand, storage is also a great tool for keeping smaller things together. Do not hesitate to put things in boxes and bags, even if you normally would not –it can help you make the most of your limited vehicle space and simplify the unpacking process once you arrive.
Build A Relaxed Schedule
The less time you give yourself, the harder it becomes to properly downsize and clean out your home before you move. If you are rushing everything, then you might make irrational decisions or get rid of things that actually have value to you.
This is also a good reason why you should ask for help if you need it. Get friends or family involved, and do not be afraid to offer unwanted items to others, especially things like appliances that you do not want to take with you. The more time you have, the better the results will be.
If you are already close to the moving date, then do not stress too much. As long as the clean-up is done before you leave, then you will be fine. It is better to slow down and assess things properly, even if that means taking a whole afternoon to casually sort through your home.
Almost everybody loves fall. It is a great time of the year to get cozy, enjoy your time with one another, and relax in the weather that is not too hot and not too cold. However, that does not make it an easy season for everybody, and some people are well aware that their house needs extra work.
Whether needing full-service junk hauling or straightforward rental dumpsters, Eagle Dumpster Rental of Essex County is the best choice throughout the township of Cedar Grove and other communities in north central Essex County
Preparing your house for the changing seasons is important, especially if you have family members or pets that need specific living conditions. Temperature changes, wind, rain, and countless other natural factors can all play a part in making maintenance even more important.
Check the Roof
Winter is the worst possible time to repair your roof, even if it does not snow. Fall provides a great opportunity to rework a roof space without the threat of slipping hazards, but you should be aware of what your roof actually needs first.
Some roof sections might only need a new surface, while others might be leaking water directly into your home. Whatever the case may be, you should use fall as a chance to inspect your roof while you still have time.
Prepare your Lawn
Your lawn is going to struggle during the winter, and heavy snowfall can stifle it quite badly. Be prepared to try and protect it using substances like pre-emergents – this will make it very easy for the lawn to regrow once the winter is over and can also help kill off weeds.
It might be a good idea to use fertilizer or aerate your lawn, feeding it and making sure that it can grow a little bit before the frost settles. This gives it more of a fighting chance if the cold picks up for much longer than expected.
Fix your Driveway
A damaged or dirty driveway (or sidewalk) can end up taking even more damage when winter rolls around, thanks to the unusual way that cold can influence certain materials. Sealing up holes and keeping clear, accessible drains is important for avoiding any dangerous ice coatings.
On top of that, you will want to seal any cracks in major parts of the driveway. Harsh rain and snow can make those cracks worse, so the longer you leave them exposed, the larger they will get and the more damaged your driveway will become.
Shield your Plants
If you have outdoor plants that you do not want to use, shield them from the frost and snow. While a greenhouse or see-through dome can work, you can sometimes simply get away with shrub covers and chicken wire to hold them in place.
Newer plants will need much more care, especially if they were just planted. Anything added to your garden over the past year might be in more danger, so you should give them some more attention before the winter rain, wind, snow, and frost turn up.
Double-Check Gutters
Gutters are a major part of your home’s drainage system and a key tool for keeping the roof safe, so you need to be sure that they are going to work during the winter. Blockages can prevent drainage almost entirely, and weak brackets might lead to the pipes falling if they get weighed down too much.
You also need to be sure that they are draining to the right place. If part of the drain below the downpipe is blocked, then the water will simply pool at the bottom. Snow will not prove much of a problem with gutters, but more solid blockages can make them completely ineffective.
Stock Up
Be sure to stock up on any important supplies you might need for the winter, from food to extra clothing. It will be a lot harder to go out in heavy snowfall, and even if no snow comes, other people might be rushing out to get their winter shopping – especially as the holidays approach.
Getting prepared earlier also makes it easier to take your time. Instead of worrying about what you will be able to find on store shelves, you can slow down and shop at your own pace. This is especially important if you are shopping for any home repair work or other maintenance work on this list.
Check Your Heating
Heating is always important in the winter. Even if you personally do not mind the cold, you might have family members or pets that need a certain level of heat to stay comfortable. Double-check your heating and make sure that nothing is broken or malfunctioning in any way.
If there are issues with your heating, you can either go and get it fixed or simply replace it. It is important to fix your heating issues while the weather is still warm since some of the replacement work might involve turning off the heating for a while.
Clear your Trash
It might also be a good idea to clear out extra trash and unwanted possessions from your home before winter hits. This can be a good idea ahead of Christmas since there are going to be a lot of gifts handed out, but it is also good for your own mental health.
Many people stay inside during winter since the weather is colder and fewer events will be happening in their local area. Staying cooped up inside a messy, dirty house can make life really draining, so the cleaner you make each room, the more comfortable you will be.
Over time, we collect a lot of stuff, and our homes can become cluttered with it. One of the worst areas for clutter is the basement. Whether you have a finished or unfinished basement, you will find that this room becomes a catch-all for everything in the home.
Basements can become an overflowing storage area, full of clutter, seasonal décor, extra furniture, and other items that have no place. While having a space for the odds and ends within your home is not a bad idea, in theory, it can quickly get out of hand.
We’ve been the preferred waste management services provider for customers in Centreville, MD for the past two decades – and we want to continue growing that reputation moving forward.
As the basement can become cluttered easily, it might seem like a big task to try and organize things down there. Luckily, no matter what kind of basement you are dealing with, there are some simple ways you can tackle the issue and even get the job of decluttering done on a weekend.
How To Start A Basement Organization Project
Organizing the basement is a project and one that will require a couple of days to complete, which is why working on the weekend is a good idea. Not only do you have to deal with the stuff in the basement, but you also need to consider the state of the room itself.
According to decluttering experts, the first thing to do when trying to organize your basement is to take out everything from the room. This will not only show you everything that needs to be sorted and decluttered, but you will also be able to check out the state of the room.
Basements can become victims of mold, or there may be structural issues that need to be dealt with before the room can be used safely again.
If you are not sure of what to look for, you can request a home inspector to come to your house to highlight any issues. If there are any issues found within the basement, make sure to get these resolved before moving your stuff back into the room.
Tips For Organizing The Basement
The basement can be an asset to your home when it is organized. To ensure that your efforts on this organizing weekend are not wasted, the following tips will help maintain the high standards in your basement and ensure it is always tidy.
Declutter Junk
The basement can become a magnet for clutter, and it is easy to hold on to items you no longer need when they are out of sight. This is one of the biggest issues people deal with when it comes to organizing their basement, which is why decluttering should be the first thing you do this weekend.
Go through your belongings and determine whether you need them or whether they can be decluttered. A good way to make progress this way is to use the three-box system:
Keep
Declutter
Storage
Choose A Specific Purpose For The Basement
Once everything has been removed from the basement, it will be easier to see the kind of space you are working with. Before you can move on with putting items back and organizing your stuff, take some time to consider what you want to use the basement for.
This is something you can do even if your basement is only half-finished. Basements can be more than just a storage space, as you can transform them into a guest room, home office, or children’s playroom, to name but a few.
The options are endless, but choosing a purpose for the basement will make it easier to keep organized as it will prevent it from becoming the catch-all of the home again.
Create Built-In Storage Solutions
Now that you know what the purpose of the basement is consider furniture that allows for extra storage. While items can be stored in boxes, having furniture is a much better solution to keeping your basement organized at all times.
Not only will this give you the storage you need to keep the room tidy, but it also makes it a liveable space and somewhere comfortable that can be used as an additional room.
There are many options for furniture that can also be used as storage, from comfy ottomans to under-bed storage. You can narrow down these options by focusing on the purpose of the basement and what you need in that room.
Use Extra Space
To get the most out of your basement, consider using any extra space that you may have in the area, such as under the stairs where shelving or a cupboard can be installed.
If these kinds of areas are available to you, then you have a lot more potential in the basement and can have more storage options.
Choose Vertical Storage
Vertical storage is a great solution for both finished and unfinished basements because it can provide a lot of space without taking up the entire room. Items like pegboards, shelves, and coat hooks can keep the space organized without using up floor space.
This is especially important in an unfinished basement, as the storage may need to be moved again in the future when further work takes place down there.
Label and Zone Items
When storing items, label the drawers or boxes you use so you can keep them organized and zone by category so they will be easy to locate.
Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual event where millions of people gather to make a difference in their communities.
There is a lot of trash that ends up on the coastline, and not only is this unsightly, it can also be dangerous. This is why on Coastal Cleanup Day, millions of volunteers come together to not only remove waste from the beach but also document what they have found.
Renting a dumpster in Chesapeake City, Maryland is easy and affordable because of Eagle Dumpster Rental’s continued work in Cecil County.
This litter cleanup and prevention movement was first founded by the Ocean Conservancy and has grown over the past three decades into something that everyone can get involved in. There are events at beaches, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water to allow everyone to do their bit for the environment.
The initiative is currently running in over 100 countries where communities come together for the shared goal of making the environment a better place.
Why Are Coastal Cleanups Important?
There are many reasons why coastal cleanups are important and are something that we can all get involved in. The beach can attract a lot of waste from the local area as well as from around the world, which causes a range of issues.
Coastal cleanups work to combat a range of issues, including:
Water pollution that is caused by plastics and other toxic chemicals that are thrown into the sea and can be very harmful to those who consume the water, including humans, as it contaminates food and water supplies
Animals can mistake trash for food which can be very dangerous for all kinds of marine life
Working together with others in a coastal cleanup can bring you closer to your community and raises environmental awareness to the wider area
Beaches are an important part of the environment, especially for areas that are based around tourism, and keeping them safe allows everyone to make use of these natural landmarks
Local Organizations Making A Difference
Eagle Dumpster Rental works with local communities who are wanting to make a difference and participates in Coastal Cleanup Day.
Our company has worked with a range of local organizations on this day to help them clear trash from waterways and ensure that the environment is safe, healthy, and suitable for all. We support and work with those organizations that are dedicated to removing trash from natural landmarks and helping them get the tools they need to get the job done well.
Working with organizations like Keep Lee County Beautiful, SeaGrant, and Keep Martin Beautiful has allowed us to contribute to removing thousands of pounds of waste from local waterways over the years.
Our company continues to support local communities and organizations in their environmental efforts.
For Coastal Cleanup Day 2020, we are proud to support:
Missouri River Relief
This is an action-orientated organization that relies on volunteers and equipment to do the good work of cleaning local waterways.
Missouri River Relief has worked with 27,865 volunteers and cleaned up more than 940 tonnes of trash from local waterways since its inception in 2001. The organization continues to provide educational programs for students and teachers across the area to help them learn ways to support a healthy river.
Friends of Great Salt Lake
Friends of Great Salt Lake was founded in 1994 and is focused on supporting the fragile ecosystem of the Great Salt Lake.
They aim to provide people with the knowledge and tools needed to support this waterway, encouraging locals to take their own steps in protecting the lake. Friends of Great Salt Lake continues to increase public awareness and appreciation for the river through education, research, advocacy, and public events.
How To Host A Solo Coastal Cleanup
Cleaning up the coastline does not have to be reserved for only one day of the year as anyone can take some small steps to make a difference whenever they are next by the sea.
If you are interested in participating in Coastal Cleanup Day or want to create your own event, follow these tips to ensure it is a safe and successful endeavor:
Make sure that you pick a location that is secluded to allow for social distancing, which includes considering the time of day you go to the beach
Bring the necessary equipment with you, including personal protection equipment (PPE) like gloves, a mask, and a hand sanitizer. Ensure you are wearing closed-toe shoes and have some refreshments with you to keep you hydrated
Download the Clean Swell app to record the data regarding the trash you are collecting, such as the type and amount
Safely collect and dispose of all trash using the necessary equipment
When the event has finished, make sure to safely remove and dispose of your gloves to prevent contamination
Sanitize all gear used in the clean up before taking it home
You can use the hashtag #CleanOn to share your results and progress with like-minded people.
One Step At A Time
Cleaning coastal areas is a vast task and one that takes a lot of work, people, and hours dedicated to it. This can feel overwhelming, but every effort counts. Regardless of how much or how little you can do, continue to try your best to do your bit for the environment, as it will make a difference.
We continue to work with organizations that support the Coastal Cleanup initiative to ensure that our area is safe and healthy for everyone to enjoy.
Whether you’re regularly out in your yard or it’s just a space for the kids to play in, all yards generate trash. The Environmental Protection Agency foundyard trimmings in municipal solid waste (MSW) made up 35.4 million tons in their last calculation. This accounts for 12.1% of all MSW generation and you may find there are many ways you can make better use of your yard waste and benefit from a greener space to enjoy outdoors, as well as positively impacting the environment. From this 35.4 million tons of yard trimmings, around 10.5 million tons ended up in landfill and in many cases this could have been completely avoided.
Much of the trash in your yard can be easily reused for the benefit of your lawn and plants. Actively finding ways to minimize unnecessary trash is important if we want to look after the planet correctly, and your yard is a great place to start if you’re looking to take positive steps.
The borough of Delmont, Pennsylvania is within our delivery range at Eagle Dumpster Rental in Westmoreland County.
Why is it Important to Recycle Yard Waste?
Your yard waste should be reused and recycled to ensure you are doing your best for the environment. When you collect your yard waste in a compost pile, bacteria which rely on oxygen (aerobic bacteria) work with other microorganisms within the waste to break it down into nutritious components which can improve the soil quality and provide additional nutrients to a wide variety of plants. Letting your yard waste be taken to landfill means that the same bacteria will break down the yard waste and product methane, a dangerous greenhouse gas. Methane is in the top three most prevalent greenhouse gases in the US and landfills are a huge contributor to the overall methane levels across the country. If all US citizens made the switch to recycling yard waste, we could considerably impact the volume of waste in landfill and cut the methane levels too.
Steps towards Better Yard Management
Your city or state will have individual rules around recycling, but all municipalities offer their systems some support with the waste disposal, beyond the landfill. All city and town websites should have dedicated trash and recycling pages so you can work out where your yard waste should go and separate it accordingly. There are other ways you can make better use of your trash in the yard, too:
1)Reduce Waste by Reusing It
Recycling is an effective option for dealing with yard trimmings and waste, but you could take a further step out of the carbon cycle and reuse and recycle your waste yourself. Keep your car fresh from soil and dirt, avoid trips to the recycling plant and save time, as well as the planet.
A highly effective way of reusing your yard waste is to simply leave it be. When you mow your lawn, consider theGrasscycling movement. Rather than collecting up all the cut grass, bagging it up and removing them, leave them on the lawn to decompose naturally. This allows for the nutrients in the cut grass to go back into the earth and fertilize your lawn. Remember you need to make sure you keep your lawn 1” or longer for this to work.
You can also make use of dried leaves and shredded or old wood waste in your yard by turning them into mulch. You can spread the mulch in thin layers around the base of your plants. It acts as a 100% natural deterrent for weeds. It can prevent weed growth, help with water retention and add nutrients back into the soil for the benefit of your plants and the wider ecosystem. If you don’t like the idea of grasscycling you can also do the same with your grass clippings.
2)Learn to Compost
Rather than using a community or public composting facility, it is quite straightforward to make your own at home. Compost is any organic material which can be added to your soil to help your plants grow and it can be made at home by combining many different household materials and waste which you may usually just throw in the trash.
A compost pile can include food scraps such as fruit and vegetables, coffee grounds, branches, twigs, dead leaves and grass clippings. You need to layer them properly for them to be effective and should incorporate equal amounts of browns to greens and the layers should alternate. Waste from your yard such as leaves, twigs and branches are classed as “browns” while grass, vegetable waste, fruits and coffee grounds are considered “greens”. Green layers provide the nitrogen, and the brown layers provide the carbon necessary to break down and create quality compost for your yard.
You can opt to store your compost in an unused trash can or purchase a specific compost bin, while others opt to have a compost pile at the end of their yard, allowing the nutrient-rich compost to build up.
3)Collect Water
Each American uses an average of88 gallons of water a day at home. This is both expensive and, in many cases, could be reduced if we think more carefully about how we use water. Water used in the yard doesn’t need to come from the faucet and considering how much we use on watering plants and lawns, it’s worth finding another solution. Installing a water butt or simply collecting water in buckets or bins can provide all the water you need for your hose and to keep plants and grasses hydrated in the hotter months.
Whether you’re really proud of your yard or it’s just a scrap of land you let the kids enjoy, there is no need to let it become another source of trash for your home. Dumping the waste may seem like the easiest option but it’s no good for the environment and much of what you’re throwing in the trash could be nutritious for your yard too.
Small consecutive changes are vital in any attempt to combat climate change and by minimizing what you send to landfill, you’re playing your part.
There are over 2000 landfills currently open across the States, adding to the pollution in our environment and making our country an uglier place. Landfills may not look too bad if you’re in the area but it’s the damage they’re doing to the ground which counts. The land is packed full of toxic chemicals, greenhouses gases and leachate, all hazards for not just us, but all future generations. Proactive approaches to deal with waste are key to avoiding more damage to the environment, and the government is making big commitments to moving forward on solid waste management, so we should all look to do the same.
The Environmental Protection Agency committed to a goal of reducing all food loss and wasteby 50% by 2030. This was first agreed in 2015 and we’re well on our way towards the end date with much more action necessary. In 2018,estimates suggest that more food reached landfills and combustion facilities than any other single material from our everyday trash. Our trash cans are packed out with all kinds of products which we could probably find a better use for, and more importantly than this, dealing with food waste can help to limit the impact of landfill on climate change in the US.
Denton, Maryland and area homeowners and business owners rely on Eagle Dumpster Rental to provide effective, affordable roll-away dumpsters suitable for all types of jobsites and projects.
How Much Do We Know about Household Trash?
It’s a shameful fact that Americanswaste $240 billion in food each year. Much of this food waste is tipped straight into landfills and we think nothing more of it but to move forward and actively contribute to a greener future, everyone needs to be significantly more mindful about their trash, from buying better to using better recycling.
Michigan State University’s latest Food Literacy and Engagement Poll found 88% of respondents believe they are taking steps to reduce food waste home. While this looks positive, we need to look at what households can actively do to reduce their wastage and minimize their impact on the environment.
Household trash is often thrown in a black bag and forgotten about, and this is the first problem. It varies from state to state but most areas have recycling schemes and with a little extra thought, households can make changes to minimize the volume of trash they’re simply chucking without a second thought. The statistics shared relate just to food so when you consider the additional household trash every week, it paints a worrying picture. Here we’re looking more closely at steps any household can take to cut their trash and make a positive difference to the future.
Home Waste Management
Household trash comes from a wide range of different areas so you need to consider what changes you can make and how you can act more mindfully when throwing stuff out. Consider:
Composting in the Garden
All your garden waste can be reused, alongside food scraps, to create your own compost pile and feed your garden organically and naturally from your own water. This limits organic materials from becoming trash in landfills.
Sustainable Home Improvements
Making small changes in the home can help improve its energy efficiency, saving you money and minimizing trash. Changing to energy efficient light bulbs is one quick switch which can save bulbs being chucked in the trash too often.ENERGY STAR-qualified LEDs use only 20%–25% of the energy and last 15 to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace. LEDs use 25%–30% of the energy and last 8 to 25 times longer than halogen incandescent bulbs. You can also look to use recycled paper and other recovered materials for insulation.
Plan your Meals
Meal planning is the easiest way to eradicate unnecessary food waste. If you only buy what you need for each meal, then you won’t be tipping tons of food in the trash at the end of the week. It can be boring but once you get into the habit, meal planning is great for your bank balance and helps to keep the food waste down. It’s also worth remembering to chuck all wasted fruits and vegetables onto your compost pile.
Minimizing Waste On-The-Go and in the Community
Your local community should have a recycling commitment and offer services to help make it easy to recycle household items which may be difficult to dispose of, or too easy to chuck into the landfill. Schemes such as eCycling for electronics should be available so you can safely recycle older electrical products and they may even be able to be reused in the community or their parts safely extracted for recycling.
If you really want to make a change you could become the voice of waste management and improving your community’s outlook. Raise the profile of awareness events such as Earth Day (22nd April) in your local area and encourage bottle collections or even neighborhood composting schemes if there is enough interest.
Your recycling commitments shouldn’t be limited to your own home either, and you should keep your focus in mind when traveling or on holiday. Beaches and parks are often trash magnets, so be sure to take everything you use away with you and dispose of it safely. The same goes for your car. We know they contribute significantly to global pollution so cut back on use as much as you can and be mindful about recyclable parts. Return used tires to the manufacturer or wholesaler to avoid them ending up landfill and make sure dead or damaged batteries are not left to decay either, as they quickly erode, and toxic acids and lead can very quickly enter the environment.
Set your Household Trash Reduction Goal
Even making a small change will contribute to cutting back on trash. The government has made clear commitments to a greener future, especially when handling food waste. We can do the same and aim to make changes which bring down the volume of trash we throw out every week. A big clear-out to start from scratch can be a great way of beginning your journey towards a trash conscious future.
When you want to remove junk and waste from your home, there are two methods that stand out from all of the other options you have. The first is normal waste removal, where you load up your car or truck and take the debris out to a dump, and the second is hiring a dumpster to help with larger-scale debris disposal. Both can be a reasonably accessible option for almost any kind of debris, waste, or junk removal, but how much do they actually cost compared to each other?
How are the prices different?
There is a removal cost associated with both options, but the fees come from very different things when you put them to a cost comparison. When performing waste disposal yourself, you are usually paying for fuel, dump fees, extra trips (if you can’t fit all of the junk into your vehicle at once), and the amount of time that you are taking up to deliver the debris.
By contrast, when you are renting a dumpster, you are basically paying for the dumpster itself and any late fees or overage fees that might come from it. There is no need to pay any dump costs, and you aren’t expected to cover the fuel costs either, so you are usually only paying the price of the dumpster and any other delivery costs the company associates with it.
How much does renting a dumpster cost?
There isn’t a set price that you will pay whenever you rent a dumpster like any rental, the price can vary depending on the size of the container you need, the amount of time that you need it for, the overall limits that the rental company has put in place, and sometimes even just your ZIP code. Each dumpster rental company has its own way of handling the prices, which can make trash removal through dumpster rental services feel much more complicated than it actually is.
When dealing with a dumpster rental, you need to be aware that trying to rent a dumpster won’t always cost the same amount. A single company might have dozens of dumpster options, each priced at different levels due to their size and any specialized extras they have. Even once you are renting a dumpster, the late fees or weight limit costs can vary between each dumpster type they offer, too. Contacting the dumpster company via phone, email, or in-person meetings can help you get an idea of what you might need to pay, at least.
For example, a 10-yard dumpster will often be valued at far less than a 20-yard dumpster, with 40-yard dumpsters being the most expensive of all. While the company can haul away the containers and the junk inside regardless of size, the cost to actually rent one increases as they get larger.
How much does in-person junk removal cost?
Choosing to get rid of debris and junk by yourself can seem cheaper, but only in a financial sense. One of the significant benefits of dumpster rental vs. junk removal is the fact that renting a dumpster doesn’t force you to spend time and effort moving the debris to a dumping spot. Without a removal company, the highest added cost is the amount of time that it can take.
For example, let us say that an hour of your time is worth around $50, and you have to take a day off work to complete the junk removal. If it takes you four hours to gather the junk and make multiple trips back and forth due to the capacity of your vehicle, you could end up missing out on $200 worth of time. This also doesn’t count dumping fees and fuel costs, as well as any damage that you might accidentally do to the vehicle that could need repairs.
Which should you use?
The issue of dumpster rentals vs. junk removal service can be a difficult one because the two are equally good in different situations. Both can help you get rid of large amounts of junk, and the two options are relatively similar in how they handle the waste. They can even reach a comparable price depending on the exact situation you are in and the amount of waste junk you need to dispose of.
Removal Company
If you are going with a dumpster rental and junk removal service, then make sure you get the prices right. A certain dumpster rental might be twice as pricey as another one, even if they look similar and have similar-looking capacities. Other than that, though, most junk removal companies are more than happy to help deal with junk and waste regardless of how much you have, as long as you don’t exceed the dumpster limit.
If you do put too much in a dumpster, or add too much weight, the junk removal company will have limits in place. This can result in added fees from the junk removal process, and might even stop them from carrying out the junk removal at all.
Removing Junk Yourself
When it comes to dumpster rental vs. junk removal, some people prefer to handle junk removal themselves. This can be a great option if you only have a single trailer load or a truckload of junk that can easily be moved from place to place. It also allows you to break up the process if you are dumping the waste as you go.
However, if you already have a lot of trash to get rid of, it can become much more expensive over time than simply using a dumpster, especially if you keep having to use up your own time in ways that prevent you from getting other things done.
Whichever junk removal option you choose, remember that junk removal is going to be different for every person and in every situation. Just because one person has a cheaper alternative doesn’t mean that it will be that way for everybody, so make sure that you do the proper research and find the best fit for your location and the type of waste you need to be removed.
Waste management can be an important part of hundreds of situations. Perhaps you are making renovations to your home and need to dispose of old tiles and materials, or maybe you are trying to scrap a lot of old furniture in a building that isn’t being used anymore. Whatever the reason, finding the right kind of container for dealing with your home or yard waste is a significant step in the right direction, especially when you are forced into handling more debris than you might have expected.
The two most common containers you might see when it comes to waste management are dumpsters and bagsters. They both aim to do the same thing, but the differences between them mean that they are functionally distinct and unique. Which is better, and why might you choose one over the other?
What is a dumpster?
Most people have seen a dumpster. They are large, metal containers that can be used to hold trash and other project debris in a convenient space, and usually come from a company that will pick up and dispose of the waste after a certain amount of time. Physically, they are heavy enough to require a truck or another large vehicle to transport them, so the customer often has to get them placed in a certain spot and then leave it there until the pick up date. This wouldn’t be a conventional pickup truck, but a larger dumpster-carrying truck.
Dumpster rental services exist almost everywhere, and using a dumpster like this is the preferred option for dealing with most trash and debris. Instead of buying one, dumpster rental companies generally give them to their customers for a set period of time, agreeing to pick up the dumpster and take the contents to a landfill or another disposal site later on. Since they can be deployed on the driveway of the people who need it, getting it to the right location is just a matter of letting the truck drive up there.
The exact design used by each dumpster can vary, but they all serve the same purpose: they are a high-weight container that can hold a large load of materials and debris, making them an excellent solution for everything concerning home renovation, construction, and demolition. You will often see them on a large-scale project for this reason, but they can be hired by anybody who needs them, even if it is only to get rid of some scrapped furniture.
What is a bagster?
A bagster is meant to be a smaller, more portable alternative to a dumpster. This three-cubic-yard bag is generally intended to be single-use, acting as a smaller-capacity dumpster that doesn’t take up quite the same amount of room. In concept, it is very similar to a dumpster, but takes up less room and is generally much easier to handle for a smaller-scale project. This isn’t surprising, given that the name is a shortened way of saying ‘dumpster bag.’
The purpose of a bag like this is the same as a dumpster, and usually has the same rules in which materials can be placed inside it. The only difference, other than the capacity of the bag and the smaller size, is the fact that the bagsters won’t always follow the same restrictions as dumpster rental agreements. You usually buy a dumpster bag rather than renting one, which changes the way that the process works.
For example, let us say you have a lot of garden trash that needs to be thrown out – enough for a dumpster bag, but hardly enough for a normal dumpster. You can buy a bagster and keep it indefinitely, meaning that you have plenty of time to gather up the trash and place it inside at your own pace. By contrast, a dumpster often needs to be picked up at a set time, regardless of whether or not it is full yet.
Bagster or Dumpster?
Choosing between a bagster and a dumpster isn’t easy, especially not with difficult projects that might end up veering off course in ways that you could not predict. However, you can usually try to figure out which option suits you best beforehand, narrowing down your options based on price, the area you are working in, or even the type of work you will be doing. Here is a full comparison of both options, what they offer, and how you should use them relative to one another.
Work Suitability
A bagster is similar to a dumpster, but not identical. They both aim to solve different problems using the same kind of premise (a container that you can throw debris into), but there will be many cases where one option is superior to the other in almost every way. First of all, try to think about the work you will actually be doing, as well as the scale of the project you are working at.
Most bagster options, such as the WM Bagster, come at a set size of three cubic yards. This means that you have roughly three cubic yards to fill with trash and debris, which can be more than enough for smaller projects. This smaller size means that they can technically be easier to move around, although a full bagster still generally needs to be lifted by a small crane. This limited area means that they can struggle to support larger projects unless you have alternate ways of dealing with some of the debris, though, which obviously points to a dumpster being the better choice for extended projects.
While the dumpster bag is good for smaller work, a regular dumpster rental can be amazing for handling mid-size or large projects, usually giving you over three times the area of a bagster with no immediate downsides. The cost of renting one can be higher, but if you just need to remove a lot of old materials, then it can be a very reliable option. Since they are much more solid, you also don’t need to be as concerned about them splitting or breaking suddenly.
Size isn’t the only factor that matters here, of course. In some cases, you will want one or the other purely because of how easily it can be placed. WM waste management bagsters can be placed closer to your home than dumpsters since a typical dumpster needs to be left by the side of the road. This won’t be an issue if your front door leads right onto the street, but it can be a pain if you have to carry an old bed all the way down a driveway just to scrap it properly.
What is a bagster best for?
Use bagsters if you are dealing with smaller amounts of debris and materials, regardless of what they actually are. They can be much easier to move around in the short-term, and the price of buying a bag can usually be cheaper in the long run than full dumpster rental. As long as you don’t think you will reach and exceed the capacity of the bagster, it can be a great way to move debris and trash out of your home and into a spot where it can be properly managed. Each bagster is also surprisingly strong, and won’t suddenly burst from too many old bricks or pieces of wood.
Groups like WM produce bagster designs that are meant to be the best possible combination of materials, often using them as a replacement for regular dumpster choices entirely. However, on small-scale projects, even a basic waste management bagster can work well.
What is a dumpster best for?
Dumpsters are the exact opposite of the bag dumpster: larger, harder to move around, and much more forgiving in terms of capacity. A decent dumpster could end up holding every single piece of debris you create in a renovation project, meaning that all of your trash ends up in a single place rather than being scattered into multiple containers. While they often can’t be moved by the customer once placed, a dumpster is also usually small enough to fit on the side of a street without blocking traffic, taking up a single parking space without blocking the road.
Higher-quality dumpsters are often used by professionals for a very obvious reason: they are large and durable. The price of hiring a dumpster is well worth the benefits, especially when you are handling a lot of debris that you want to move out of your home and into a disposal container.
Pickup Rules
Another major part of renting dumpster models and buying bagster options is the way that they will get picked up later on. Most waste management companies offer a pick up service in some way, either included as part of the rental price (dumpsters) or as a separate charge following the purchase (generally bagsters). Each company will have its own rules on how their bagster and dumpster rentals or purchases can work, but you can usually get a more specific answer to any questions you may have from their customer service team.
When working with a dumpster, you often have a set time limit. On the last day, the company will come with a truck to pick up the dumpster and dispose of the debris inside, whether or not you are actually finished using it. This can sometimes be included in the price, but in other cases, you might need to pay an extra collection fee that scales with how much weight has been placed inside the dumpster. Expect to pay more if the debris goes above the top limits of the dumpster, too.
With a bagster, things can be slightly different. Buying a WM bagster to use for a home renovation idea might give you that container indefinitely, allowing you to keep it for as long as you need it. However, once the bag is full, you will need to have it emptied: for a small collection fee, a bagster waste management company can come and collect the bag, taking the debris away and dumping it – usually with the bag – into a disposal site. You don’t usually get the bagster back, although you might, depending on the state of the bag itself. Most of the time, the bag is sealed up to help with disposing of the debris efficiently.
As you can tell, a dumpster often has a set time limit for how long you are able to keep it, while a bagster is a more long-term option despite the smaller size of only three cubic yards (compared to ten cubic yards or more). Either way, you will eventually need to have them emptied, and that is when you will have to consider pick up ranges and cost details. Pickup charges can increase the price of a long project, and the pickup range means that you might only be within the limits of certain companies.
Not all pick up situations are handled by waste management companies. Certain home improvement stores like Home Depot can schedule pick up times for any WM bagster you buy from them, for example. This service copies the same idea as those offered by a more niche company, so the end result should still be the same.
Bagster or Dumpster pickup?
Bagsters are lighter and often easier to load onto a truck, making them generally easier for a company to handle during pickup and delivery. However, they aren’t a perfect solution for every situation, and some bags will need to be placed away from your home so that they have the clearance necessary for removal. Dumpsters are similar, but their larger size can sometimes work in their favor: people are less likely to park near them if they are on the side of the road.
When scheduling a bagster pickup, remember that the company might not have your details on hand. You could need to give them your zip code so that they have some idea of where you are located: if you decided to rent a dumpster from them, though, it is likely they have your zip code on file.
The overall process for a pickup is the same: a vehicle arrives, collects the container, and then takes it to dispose of the trash. Functionally, the customer doesn’t need to do much except make sure that the container is accessible, which shouldn’t be difficult if the area has been kept clear of vehicles and other debris.
Cost
Dumpster rentals can be expensive, especially when you can’t give a clear answer for how much debris you will be placing inside. Even with some idea of what answer to give the company, the price on collection can be increased purely because you have added more trash than they expected. Many companies also have restrictions on certain items, such as not allowing particular materials beyond a certain amount, and breaking these limitations can increase the price even further.
Bagster purchases can be more lenient and don’t cost as much overall, but also come with a reduced size in cubic yards. Similarly to dumpsters, bagster rules can increase the cost if you damage the bag or fill it with things that aren’t meant to be added. If you have a question about any of this, you can get an answer from the site or representative that is offering the bagster to you.
Other than that, the price mostly comes down to your personal limits. You might find that a single-use WM bagster is too wasteful for the price, while other people might see the cost of renting a dumpster inferior to the cheaper price of a bagster that they get to personally own. It all comes down to the cost you are personally willing to pay, as well as how important the pickup service and waste disposal process is to you.
Remember that the cost of either option can scale up if you get two or more at once. The rental price of getting two dumpsters back-to-back can easily cost as much as multiple bagsters that you own at the same time, so try to plan things out in the most efficient way possible. Some customers might find it easier to pay more upfront, while others may want to stagger out their payments by only buying or renting a single container at a time.
Pickup pricing changes from company to company, as well as in different areas of the world, so there isn’t a single baseline to follow. Certain cities might even have vastly different prices to other cities in the same country, so it can be difficult to recommend an exact amount that you might want to aim for in terms of costs.
Legality
Permits can be quite a roadblock in a lot of renovation work, but you don’t always need them. In general, if you are having a dumpster or bagster placed on your own property and renting or buying it directly from a licensed company, they will take care of the permits. If not, they will make sure that they point you towards the easiest and fastest method of getting a permit yourself. Whether or not you need a permit can depend on the situation, so getting an answer from them can be a vital part of the process.
In most instances, if you are having a dumpster or bagster placed in an area that is supposed to let pedestrians have right of way, such as an open sidewalk or an area that is technically owned by the city, you will need a permit. Even if the property is your own, a bagster or dumpster that blocks traffic might also require a permit. However, you can always look up your local area for a proper answer, especially if the bagster company can’t give you the answer you need.
If you misuse a bagster in a way that harms others, you can be held responsible for it: however, you likely won’t have to answer to the WM bagster company that originally made the bag since you own it. Rented dumpsters are much less forgiving: you will have to answer to the WM company that owns it since, unlike the bagster, you are only renting it from them. If you significantly damage the dumpster before the pickup service has arrived, it might increase the cost of the overall rental so that the company can cover the repair work.
Other Important Questions
Neither bagsters nor dumpsters are better than the other option, because they both fill different roles. Because of this, there are some top questions that you might need an answer to at some point, more so if you need something like a bagster for urgent home repair work. Every answer here can vary depending on the situation and the company that you are using as your disposal service, so be sure to ask them for a more detailed answer if you can.
How do I make sure the company can pick up their bagster/dumpster?
Clear the area around the drop-off and pickup site, regardless of how much work that might take. If there isn’t enough clear room, it can be almost impossible to place it down, especially in streets or places where alternative drop-off points are highly limited. Be sure to avoid having it dropped off on soft ground, too: even a bagster can start to sink if the bag is loaded with a lot of debris, making it harder to retrieve.
How do I avoid restricted materials?
Each WM company has their own rules on what can and can’t be placed in a dumpster or bagster bag. Before you pay for their service, check to see what these rules are: in general, items like paint, chemical waste, propane tanks, and hazardous materials are never going to be allowed in a bagster, including ones that could corrode the bagster bag directly.
Is a bagster cheaper?
A bagster bag service is often going to be the cheaper option when it comes to a WM service, especially when that WM service operates within a limited range. The cost of buying a bagster can seem high compared to a large conventional bag, but this cost matches up with the strength of the bag itself: a bagster isn’t just a weak canvas and is designed to hold all kinds of materials that a normal bag can’t.
When you are looking for a dumpster to rent, there are various things you have to consider. The rental of a dumpster can be quite an expensive feat for homeowners and construction companies, so you want to make sure you are getting the best deal possible.
While the expense of dumpster rental can be great, the benefits when it comes to saving time and helping your project run smoothly are just as important. Being able to remove a lot of waste from your project site is a valuable service that can save you time and effort as well ensure that you can work safely without debris building up.
Finding cheap dumpster rental may be possible in your area, but the cost of a dumpster for rent is not the only thing you need to consider.
How Much Are Dumpster Rentals?
The total cost of the rental of dumpster will vary based on the company you use, your location, what kind of project you are working on, and the rental period.
The size dumpster that you choose to hire will also impact the price. There are several dumpster sizes available to rent, based on the kind of project you are working on and how much waste will be disposed of.
A 20 yard dumpster is the most common for homeowners to rent, so we will be using this size dumpster when creating average prizes of rental.
Dumpster rental prices can vary a lot based on certain factors. The dumpster size and rental period are perhaps two of the biggest influences to the cost of the rental, as a smaller dumpster over a short period will not cost as much as a 50 yard dumpster over several weeks.
While there is no flat rate when it comes to dumpster rental, as each company offers a unique service and what they offer may impact the cost of the rental, it is possible to work out how much you will need to spend when you need to rent a dumpster.
What Am I Paying For With Dumpster Rental?
The reason why renting a dumpster can be so expensive is because you are paying for several different kinds of service in one.
Not only does the size of the dumpsters impact the cost, but so does:
The rental period, which is how long you will have the dumpster
The delivery/pickup fee, which will differ based on location
Your location, as there is no flat rate across states or cities
The allowable weight of the dumpster
The kind of debris you are throwing away
Dumpster rental companies typically have restrictions on the kind of debris that their containers can be used for, which is something you will have to discuss before getting a quote.
Dumpsters can be used for a range of materials and debris, as long as it is not hazardous and does not exceed the weight limit. If you overfill the dumpster, you will face overage fees, which will increase the cost of dumpster rental.
When you ask for a quote from a dumpster rental company, make sure they are telling you the cost of all their service. Some companies may only offer a quote for the delivery and the dumpster size when in reality, you will also be charged for the pickup too.
What Size Dumpster Should I Rent?
The size of the dumpster that you choose to rent will impact the total cost of service. Dumpster rentals can differ greatly in price based on the size of the container you use.
It is important to plan and estimate the right sized container for your needs, as this will ensure that all waste can be removed from the site safely, and you will not be faced with overage fees.
Failure to plan can result in the dumpster becoming overfilled, which means it cannot be removed safely. If this happens, you will have to pay overage fees, which can be up to $100 on top of the cost of rental or you may even have to pay for an additional dumpster.
There are several sizes of dumpsters available to rent. Here are the average dumpster rental prices for each:
10 Yard
This kind of container has average dimensions of 12 x 6 x 4 foot (L x W x H) and can hold approximately 2 tonnes of weight. The average cost is $300.00.
20 Yard
This kind of container is 22 x 8 x 4 foot on average and can hold approximately 2 to 3 tonnes, based on the company. The average cost is $380.
30 Yard
This kind of container is 22 x 8 x 6 feet in average dimensions and can hold 4 to 5 tonnes in weight. The average cost is $450.00.
If you require a dumpster larger than a 30 yard container, these may be available based on the company you use. The above costs to rent a dumpster relate only to the container itself, not the additional costs of service that will be added to your bill.
Should I Get The Cheapest Dumpsters For Rental?
Trying to save some money when looking into dumpsters for rent is never a bad thing, and if you can find a company that offers the cheapest service near you, then you should go for it.

It can be so frustrating to spend hundreds of dollars on a dumpster rental, only to find that it has become full quickly with other people’s trash.
There is a lot of work that can go into hiring a dumpster, as you have to be able to estimate the size and weight limit your need for your project. This planning can be thrown out of the window when people start illegal dumping waste into your dumpster without permission, causing it to fill up quickly.
Illegal dumping is a common issue, as lots of people have to deal with trespassers dumping trash in the container they have paid for. While it is frustrating and unfair, thankfully, because illegal dumping is a common issue, there are ways to avoid it.
Is It Really Illegal Dumping?
When other people dump trash in a dumpster you have hired, and that is on your property, this is considered illegal dumping.
This means that, unless the owner of the property has given explicit permission for someone to use the dumpster for their trash, they are breaking the law when doing so – like they would be when fly tipping or littering.
This rule applies to dumpsters that are located on construction sites, commercial sites, a dumpster that is on your front drive, and any dumpsters situated on private property.
While the exact laws pertaining to illegal dumping will vary based on location and state, most places consider this action a misdemeanor. This means that illegal dumping can be punishable by fines and possible jail time, based on the case.
To learn more about illegal dumping in your area, make sure to check in with your local authorities to understand their stance on this issue and what can be done about it.
Why Is It Such A Problem?
If you have never hired a dumpster before, or perhaps have been known in the past to use your neighbors’ trash can once in a while, then you may be questioning why illegal dumping is such a problem.
Not only is using someone else’s dumpster without their permission illegal, but it can also cause additional stress to the person who owns it. If you have a dumpster on your property, you will want to stop people from dumping their trash in it because:
It leaves less space in the dumpster for you to fill with the trash, materials, and debris you planned for. If a dumpster is overfilled and exceeds the weight limit, you will be charged overage fees, which can be up to $100
As the dumpster becomes full, you may have to pay for a second dumpster to complete your project
People may be dumping hazardous waste or debris that is not accepted by the dumpster rental company in your container, like paint. This will result in extra fees to handle this kind of trash
Essentially, when other people start dumping waste into your dumpster, it will cost you time and money, so you want to avoid it at all costs!
How To Stop People Using Your Dumpster
Dumpster rental can be an expensive thing to go through, so you want to make sure you are getting your money’s worth by using the container to its full capacity for everything you need.
There are some solutions you can implement to stop people from having access to your dumpster, which should prevent illegal dumping.
Place the dumpster in an outbuilding or a closed, fenced area so it cannot be accessed from the streets or without trespassing
When the dumpster is not in use, such as overnight, place a tarp over it and secure with bungee cords so it is not left open and easily accessible. This is a good thing to do regardless of your concerns of illegal dumping, as it can protect the container from rain and snow, which will make the waste heavier and more expensive to move
Leave the dumpster in a well-lit area so you can see anyone who tries to trespass
Likewise, install a security camera or perhaps multiple security cameras around the dumpsters to capture any form of illegal dumping or trespassing. Security camera footage can be used as evidence should this issue be taken further with the legal system
Try to place the roll off dumpster on your property or as near as possible, rather than on the street. This is vital in a high-traffic area
Load the dumpster quickly, and if possible, try to have the dumpster rental complete in a day, so the containers are not left on your property overnight
A simple cardboard sign around the dumpsters may be enough to throw people off using your container in some cases. Make sure to highlight that this is an illegal issue, as this may have more of an effect.
What If These Don’t Work?
If you have tried preventative measures to stop people using your dumpster, but to no avail, then you can contact the authorities.
Once you notice trash in the dumpster that is not yours, try to look for identifying labels or markings as this could indicate who has left it. If you manage to get the name of the person who is illegally using your dumpster, you can report them to the authorities.
Even if you do not manage to catch anyone in the act but are still noticing trash that not yours in the container, you may still want to contact the authorities anyway. This is especially important if the dumpster will be on your property for several days, as the issue could get worse.
Police may increase patrols in your neighborhood, which can deter trespassers.
Can The Dumpster Rental Company Help?
How much help a dumpster rental company can offer during times of illegal dumping will differ based on their policies and the extent of the situation.
Generally, the company is not liable for other people dumping trash in your container, as this is considered to be your responsibility as a renter. This is why preventative measures are often the best option.
However, if you are still seeing no success with these measures, it is recommended that you speak to the company about the situation. They may have some solutions they can recommend to protect your dumpster from trespassers.
If your case is very extreme, the company may even be able to offer a second dumpster for you to use at a reduced rate or discount what you are currently using so you can finish the clear out without more headaches.
